The hat is called “Papakha,” also known as the Caucasian headdress. Papakha is made of sheep skin and hair, which is native to Dagestan, a Russian territory west of the Caspian Sea.

Papakha symbolizes its root in the Caucasian background since Merab is a Georgian. Georgia, alongside Armenia and Azerbaijan, is one of the three Caucasian countries in the south Caucasus.

The Dagestan hat can be both black and white, while the UFC bantamweight fighter is seen wearing both. He is mainly seen with his white hat most of the time.

Merab Dvalishvili is not losing hair as he is a young man in his early 30s. His health factor and lifestyle has not seen any effects on his hair as he maintains a healthy lifestyle as a professional fighting artist.

Thus, the rumors about his falling hair are inaccurate though it could have started due to his buzz cut. But, a buzz cut and short hair are the leading choices for a fighting athlete to fight with ease.

However, in early February 2021, he suffered from a broken head that required him to get medical attention. 

The Sun reported that Merab had tried diving into a frozen lake that had blood oozed from his head, and he had to stitch up in the hospital. 

The bantamweight had shared the incident on his Instagram handle and said that the stitching process was more painful than getting hurt.

However, he was soon back on the accident site some days later and dived the next time with a safety hat for his injured head.
