Rupert Holmes (born February 24, 1947) is an American composer, singer-songwriter, musician, and author of plays, novels, and short stories who was born in the United Kingdom. The song “Escape (The Pia Colada Song)” (1979/1980), which peaked at number one on the U.S. pop chart, is his most well-known work, as is the song “Him,” which peaked at number six on the Hot 100 pop list in 1980. He is well renowned for his 1985 Tony Award-winning musical Drood (formerly The Mystery of Edwin Drood), his 2007 Drama Desk Award-winning script for the Broadway musical Curtains, and his television series Remember WENN. He was born in New York City and raised in Los Angeles.
